It’s an outsourced world…
Did you know there are more people freelancing than ever before? “By all indications”, according to Forbes, “the trend towards freelance work will continue to grow. There are currently an estimated 53 million Americans freelancing, approximately 34 percent of the total workforce. This number is expected to balloon to 50 percent by 2020.”
We are seeing this coming from many angles. Affordable Care Act encourages companies to not hire full-time workers without extra costs. Also, companies are not wanting to incur unnecessary overhead, so outsourcing is a preferred option. Another factor is uncertainty, whether it be uncertainty about government policy or the direction of the marketplace, companies are not wanting to bet on the future. Having freelance or contract workers allows them the ability to quickly and easily shrink or expand.
Therefore, a reasonable strategy is to create a career based on freelancing. This is easy to say, more of a challenge to do. The keys to making this work are…
- Positioning – you must be an expert with skills and experience.
- Your must be able to solve specific problems or produce results.
- You need to be able to effectively market your services.
Marketing is a key, for without exposure, there is limited chance of success. The methods of reaching your ideal clients must be clear and affordable. We’ll talk more on this in the future.
